New Delhi: More than 6,000 NGOs across the country have had their licenses revoked for accepting foreign funds, including those of the Medical Council of India. The license of the Missionaries of Charity had earlier been revoked by the Home Ministry.
Those who have not applied for license renewal. The Home Ministry rejected the application due to a lack of satisfactory documents. Thus, the licenses of 6003 organizations to receive foreign funds were canceled due to various reasons. There were 22,832 foreign-funded institutions operating in the country. Under the new circumstances, the number has risen to 16,829. Other companies whose licenses have been revoked include Jamia Millia Islamia, the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, and the Satyajit Ray Film and Television in Kolkata.
From today, these organizations will not be able to accept foreign aid. According to government sources, more than a dozen organizations have had their licenses revoked, but government sources said that the number of licenses revoked in previous years has also been included.
At the same time, the Home Ministry had given a deadline of March 29 for organizations whose licenses expire on September 29 and March 31. Organizations whose licenses have been revoked may appeal. In this context, the Missionaries of Charity can also appeal, but foreign donations will not be accepted until a decision is made.
