Barhi: In front of MLA Umashankar Akela, octroi was being collected from goods vehicles. Seeing this, the MLA called the administrative officials and got furious. He informed that the work of octroi recovery is being done in Barhi through the Zilla Parishad. But the agent through whom the octroi is being collected. It is totally against the rules. The agents kept by the Zilla Parishad are making an illegal recovery in the name of octroi. He said that as per the condition given by the Zilla Parishad, octroi has to be levied from such vehicles which are passenger vehicles. But extortion is being done by the agent in the name of octroi in his own arbitrary way. Octroi is also forcibly taken from goods vehicles. When he resists, he is beaten up by his henchmen.
When some goods vehicle driver complained about this to the MLA, the MLA investigated the matter. After investigation, it was found that illegal recovery was being done from goods vehicles in front of them. When he wanted to ask, his henchmen who indulge in hooliganism in the name of the agent started running away.
The MLA immediately called SDPO Nazir Akhtar, Inspector Neeraj Singh, and CO Arvind Debashish Toppo at Barhi Chowk itself and apprised them of the situation. He told the officers in a clear tone that extortion is being done in the name of octroi recovery in Barhi. Recovery from illegal goods vehicles.
