Sikkim’s CM discusses saffron cultivation with experts from Jammu and Kashmir

New Delhi, June 20: Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang attended the meeting chaired by the Governor of Sikkim, Ganga Prasad in presence of the Director Agriculture & Farmer Welfare, Jammu, and Kashmir for Saffron Cultivation in the state of Sikkim at Raj Bhawan, on Friday.

The Chief Minister thanked the Jammu and Kashmir delegation for coming all this way to support saffron cultivation in the state. He said that the state government is always in support of agricultural activity in the state and assured to provide all possible assistance to the delegation from Kashmir and other people involved in this cultivation. He also expressed his gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor of Sikkim University and his entire team for coming up with this innovative idea of Saffron Cultivation and making it possible.

The CM informed that the state government has allocated the budget for Saffron Cultivation. He also enlightened about the various initiatives of the State Government in the field of Agriculture.

Mission Director, Jammu, and Kashmir, Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal discussed the road map and suggested a future strategy. He applauded the Government of Sikkim for being kind and supportive throughout the cultivation process. Chowdary has assured to provide all possible support to grow saffron in the state. He also talked about the exchange of crop cultivation between Jammu and Kashmir and Sikkim so that both the states can learn and share new ideas in the agricultural sector.

The meeting was also attended by the Agriculture and Horticulture Minister of Sikkim Lok Nath Sharma and officers from various relevant departments.
