New Delhi: Chief Minister of Sikkim Prem Singh Tamang graced the occasion of the 87th Birthday Celebration of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama at Sera Jay Drophenling Monastery Chandmari, Gangtok on Wednesday.
The Chief Minister offered prayers to the portrait of H.H The Dalai Lama followed by the lighting of the lamp and cutting of the birthday cake. The Chief Minister offered his birthday greetings to H.H The 14th Dalai lama on behalf of the entire Sikkimese people and expressed his gratitude to the organizing committee for the celebration.
The Chief Minister urged the people to protect and preserve culture and tradition as their identity. He also spoke about the proposal for the construction of a community hall at the monastery premises. During the speech, the Chief Minister informed that H.H the 14th Dalai lama has accepted the proposal of the State Government for his visit to Sikkim this year. The Chief Minister has also assured all possible assistance from the State Government for the development and upliftment of the community.
During the ceremony, the committee also felicitated the Chief Minister and other dignitaries. Under the auspices of the Tibetan Community of Sikkim, the organizers also felicitated a few individuals for their outstanding service to society and dedication to the state and the community.
The celebration also had the distinguished presence of Khen Rinpoche, Ven, Ngawang Sonam, Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, other dignitaries, various religious leaders, Monks, devotees, and the local people.
